Thoughts about Election Results

At 5am, the results are clear as all mainstream media starts to published results that BN lost 2/3 and others.

I believe many of us are shocked and maybe anxious.

Shocked because we never expect the Opposition took so many seats (example: DAP won almost all the seats they contested) apart from Kelantan.

Anxious because how will the Opposition work together and help to make this country better. There is still a big question mark on can they (opposition) deliver?

Gerakan and MIC suffered heavy losses as they now become a very minority party. MCA lost half of the seats. The trending shows urban voters are looking for some serious change in hope to bring better future. However, many tough challenges ahead...

US Economy slowdown and Oil price go up are something that Opposition has never experience and may found difficulty to address at state level. Inflation is another.

What the Opposition can do at State level is to channel state collected taxes and revenues to improve public transportation, better execution of price control and learn. Yes, Learn. If they want us to support them again, they need to learn fast and learn hard.

For BN, it is probably good. Seriously the component parties like MCA, MIC, Gerakan and etc has long been plagued by internal fights. The decision to refresh the candidates come too late. If it was 4 years ago, they will be in much better position. For Gerakan, the CM succession issue, Motorola investment issue and threatens on losing a Chinese CM are key which cause them lost heavily.

Hope BN will learn from this, I like MCA where they control the president term to 3 and encourage MP who completed 3 terms to retire...although they could do better.

One thing is common for most BN parties... especially their leadership teams at federal level or state level. They are all too old. This country has over 60% population below 45 years old... we do need someone willing to listen and work for us. Someone walk the talk.

So we have chosen a new Penang, Selangor and Perak government. Let's not just stop here, as for long run, we need to help the opposition to manage our state better. This will help them to understand how to run a government and be more mature. Hopefully 10 years from now, we will always get to choose between 2 or more parties to be the government both at federal level and state level..... this will help ensure more transparency and less corruption.
